The course content

Here's a quick checklist of things that you will learn on the Learn Gemstone Carving-course:

  • On the first lesson we’ll look into how to create a safe workspace that’s easy to keep clean, using materials that are readily available.

  • On the second lesson you’ll learn which tools you need, where to get them from and how to make them. You can find tools depending on your budget – stone carving doesn’t have to be an expensive hobby!

  • On Health and Safety lesson you’ll learn how to work with stones safely: get the right PPE to protect yourself against injuries.

  • On the fourth lesson you’ll learn how to choose the right material and how to detect potential flaws in the stones. I also got a budget alternative for a lapidary saw if you need one.

  • After all of the ground work is done, it’s time to get carving. On the fifth lesson we’ll cover top tips, the DO’s and the DON’Ts, which tools are the best for each job and which ones to avoid.

  • Once you’re happy with your carving, you’ll learn how to finalise it and how to get it ready for sanding and polishing, to make the polishing process as easy as possible.

  • On the Sanding-lesson you’ll learn how to prepare your work for polishing. It is important to get it as good as possible to make the polishing process easier for you.

  • Before we get into polishing, let’s have a look at the diamond compounds. Save your money and only get the ones that you need. You’ll also learn how to use them and what difference it makes using different tools.

  • Polishing is the most time-consuming part of the process. On the Polishing-lesson I’ll share my tips and experience with you on how to get it right and what to look for when checking the progress.
